Iraq: A T-Shirt Says a Thousand Words

Here is a t-shirt I was given by the U.S. military on my recent trip to Iraq. I believe it’s in wide circulation, not just a “special edition.” More than any military or political analysis I could write, it speaks to one of the powerful underlying feelings that is motivating the U.S. military there now–and perhaps what’s motivated Americans since the Surge.

And on the front of the shirt–check out the badge. It says USF-I, United States Forces Iraq, the new official name for our mission there. USF-I will be replacing Multi-National Force Iraq(MNF-I), which was always something of a fiction.

USF-I, an acronym that belatedly acknowledges that this has been America's war all along

Apologies in advance for the amateur hour photo job.
