The Lamest Response to Obama's Speech

Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts,...

Okay, so everyday I wake up, get an iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts, and say, “I’m going to be the best person I can be!” Forgiving, compassionate, kind, etc. Problem is, journalism and blogging aren’t always conducive to those Buddah-ish values. In fact,  unforgiving, non-compassionate and dickish tendencies usually rule the day.

Like in this case.

Former Mass. governor and failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney felt compelled to respond to Obama’s speech.  A friend sent me Mitt’s response, which was posted at the National Review.

Quoteth Mitt:

“[Obama’s] address today was more tortured than the enhanced interrogation techniques he decries.”

And then:

“[Obama] said that the last thing he thinks about when he goes to sleep at night is keeping America safe. That’s a big difference with Vice President Cheney—when it came to protecting Americans, he never went to sleep.

There’s so much here to decry, I don’t know if it’s even worth it. Sure, Cheney never went sleep(except for those first nine months in 2001.) And in the first line… Did  Mitt really think that now would be a good time to show off his clever  rhetorical skills and use “torture” to make a  nice play on words?

I would run into Mitt while covering the campaign in 2008. He was always yelling about the “jihad” and saying things like he wanted to “double the size” of Gitmo. I don’t think he believed any of it, or if he did, he did a great job of hiding his true convictions. He is, and I say this as kindly as I can, the biggest hack in the game today. He’s in another league of hackery. I don’t think he’s a bad guy, per say, he’s just a rich dipshit so ridiculously off-base.

Can’t wait for 2012… Romney,Palin, maybe Perry…Hilarity ensues…
